What sets these homes apart is not just their aesthetic appeal but also their commitment to sustainability. Built at a cost of approximately $3500 per square meter, these Homestar 7 houses have been constructed using responsibly sourced FSC-certified forest-fibre materials. The focus on environmentally friendly practices extends to the insulation, which utilises wool, as well as the use of locally grown natural materials like Bremworth carpets and Abodo's own FSC-certified timber for the exteriors and interiors.
It's worth noting that, according to Abodo, local experts estimated a minimum budget of $5000 to $6000 per square meter for similar builds in the area. However, Abodo's innovative approach has allowed them to deliver these homes at a lower cost without compromising on quality or sustainability.
To achieve this, Abodo partnered with FLiP Healthy Homes to fabricate the houses offsite in Christchurch. The completed modules were then transported to the Cardrona site, near the iconic Cardrona Hotel, minimising construction time and reducing disruption to the local environment.
Abodo Wood's unwavering commitment to sustainable practices and responsible sourcing is showcased through their use of FSC-certified materials. By incorporating FSC-certified timber into the construction of the Cardrona Alpine Village project, Abodo Wood actively supports the cultivation of sustainably managed forests that adhere to the stringent forestry standards set by FSC.
“We’ve held an FSC Chain of Custody certificate since 2008, which has been maintained for 15 years after passing regular audits. We’re proud of achieving this milestone, which is rooted in a strong belief in meeting today’s increasing needs without disadvantaging future generations. Our conviction lies in utilising timber from carefully managed plantation forests to construct living spaces that promote well-being while also providing valuable carbon storage advantages,” says Ben Campbell – Head of Markets and Innovation at Abodo.
Abodo Wood's Cardrona Alpine Village is a testament to their unwavering dedication to ethical craftsmanship and sustainable building practices. By creating these stylish and affordable homes made with FSC-certified materials, they demonstrate that it is possible to create beautiful and environmentally conscious living spaces without compromising quality or breaking the bank. As Abodo Wood continues to lead the way in the timber industry, its commitment to the FSC certification serves as a beacon for other companies to prioritise sustainability and responsible sourcing in their construction projects.
